Somewhere in the third trimester, a switch flips. The urge to scrub baseboards at midnight is real, common, and useful. The trouble is where it points. The nesting drive tends to aim at the visible: the mural, the matching baskets, the closet sorted by size. The baby needs almost none of that. What the baby needs on day one is a short, unglamorous list, and most of it takes an afternoon. This guide separates the two piles. One pile has to be done before the birth.
