Pumping at Work: The Setup Checklist

Part of the Learning Center · included with Baby's First Year

Federal law now protects the right to pump at work, and the protections are broader than most families realize. The PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act (the PUMP Act), signed into law in December 2022, extended break time and private space requirements to nearly all employees in the country. But knowing the law exists and knowing how to activate it at a specific workplace are different things. This guide covers the legal rights in full, the space and schedule logistics, the employer conversation, storage at work, and what changes on travel days. The setup that happens before the first day back determines whether pumping at work is sustainable or a daily crisis.
